I have a box of 24 plastic uruk-hai scouts coming my way shortly, so when they get here, I’ll have about 35 Uruks for my campaign, so will be set for baddies for a while at least.  I probably will still buy some more of the metals from the game store, but we’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for that cause. 

SotDL has been progressing not fast…actually nowhere at all.  I haven’t so much finished a single drawing in over two weeks and I feel terrible for it.  I have no reason to be so mopey, but yet I still do it anyways.

This little project that I’ll be sharing with you is going to be a very involving and time consuming one, so bear with me. This is going to take some time, and that is not something I have a lot of these days.

My “little” project is going to be re-starting an old Lord of the Rings themed role-playing campaign I had years ago. In recent games, players have bickered and bickered to the point of separation. Problem gamers, thankfully, have been out of the loop for a while, and I deemed it time to start anew what those said gamer ruined years past.

The campaign would be utilizing the “Dog Lord system”, a quick and easy to use rules set using a multitude of six-sided dice (hey, I created it, I can say all the good things I want about it). I intend at some point writing an article explaining the basics of it, but that may be a while off on the horizon.

So, what am I currently working on?

Well, my gamers will be starting in Rohan, in a village in the Westfold, right as Saruman’s Uruk-hai descend upon the village to destroy it as seen in the film The Two Towers. The adventurers will have to fend off these Uruks as the villagers escape. My gamers so far include a human Hunter (a ranger), an Elf Hunter, a Dwarf Warrior, and a human Adept (spell caster), and, as I was browsing the local-ish gaming store today, found nestled in the new releases the Three Hunters boxed set, perfect models for the two Hunters and Dwarf! I have yet to get a figure for the Adept, but it shall be taken care of before the first session.

Since I planned on using miniatures, I also decided to use modular terrain, abandoning the use of a flat battle grid. I began working on some more advanced Rohan houses, the first based off of the design of the armory found in the PC game Battle for Middle-earth.

And, the antagonists: Saruman’s scouting Uruk-hai! I had these figures finished for a while, and plan on buying some more in the near future to flesh out the horde.

So, what’s next on the list?

Finish the Three Hunters and building, and then move on to making more Rohan houses/stables/etc, find and paint a suitable wizardly figure and flesh out the Uruk-hai and the first session will be able to take place!

So, I started by modelling my group of 12 Riders, four of which have throwing spears.  I probably will add more Riders to the mix later, but time and the wallet will tell…I haven’t bought any new figures in a very long time.

First up is Eowyn, Shieldmaiden of Rohan:

Now we have my Rider of Rohan with throwing spears.  They were pretty simple to do, the one on the right just Brown Iron Oxide washed with Flesh Wash, the other merely one coat of Graveyard Earth and then highlighted with Kommando Khaki until the paint color was smooth and not patchy.

One thing about my throwing spear Riders is that some of the not pictured ones actually are riding the horses from the Knights of Minas Tirith set, but you’ll see more of that in just a bit:

Now, with the standrad bearer of my force, I wanted to do something really special, make him stand out from the other Riders and be noticed, some heroic pose, but still able to support the weight of a metal rider.

Well, the only horse in the Rohan set capable of supporting his weight (the running one with his head up) didn’t look dramatic at all…it looked boring.  Displeased, I started rooting around for spare horses I could chop up and convert into a cool pose.  I happened upon my old-ish plastic Knights of Minas Tirith.  I then remembered that they were made in dynamic poses!  Ripping the Knights from their steeds, I found this horse and tested the banner bearer on it.

The result is rather satisfactory I think…an impressive centerpiece figure to ride alongside my Heroes!

Regretably, that is all the update for now.  Riders, while they are fun figures, take forever to paint.  Worry not, a new update shall come soon!

First, I suppose I should introduce myself:

This is me…at least a character reference sketch of my fursona.  I’m Sam Lycoan, and I’m an anthro wolf urry who likes to draw and paint miniature figures, particularly for Games Workshop’s Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle game.  I currently am embarking on a project that will take me deep into the heart of Rohan and the rest of the realm of men.

I also am the author of the currently-in-production Shadow of the Dog Lord Roleplaying Game, which, when finished, assuming my sources are correct, will be the only purely anthro based roleplaying game of its kind.  It’s taking a while to finish, because I am doing all the writing and illustrating myself, as well as playtesting, so it may be a ways down the road.

Oh my, there is just so much to do, and so little time to do it in!
